Pain Points

Chasing cables behind your desk and wrestling them out of tangled knots cannot be the answer.

Current desk outlets require drilling holes into your furniture, leaving no viable toolless alternative.

Power and cable control belong within reach on the desk, not hidden in a dusty crawl space on the floor.

Accessible desk power usually means wrestling with tangled cords in the dark or ruining your tabletop with invasive screws.

The challenge was to take an apparently low complexity product and break it down to its bare essentials. Moving from initial sketches into detailed internal architecture and technical analysis, every component was reverse engineered and rebuilt in CAD to understand real dimensions, tolerances, and how each physical part locks into the next.

The brief was to study an existing brand and design a power strip that embodies its visual identity and design philosophy. I chose TIPTOE, a French design brand known for its modular clamp on furniture.

While the TIPTOE aesthetic provided a strong formal foundation, shaping the product still required extensive sketching and hands on mockups to dial in the right proportions. The true challenge, however, lay beneath the surface. The project centered on technical feasibility and rigorous engineering for understanding the hidden complexity and manufacturing constraints behind producing an everyday hardware product like a power strip.

PLUG | Clamp on Powerstrip

Translating TIPTOE’s clamp mechanics into an edge mounted solution that turns your tabletop into an immediate charging station while managing cord clutter on adjustable desks.

The top surface features two USB-C ports delivering up to 64W, capable of powering everyday office devices. A wireless charging pad sits flush alongside them, giving your phone and daily essentials a dedicated resting spot right on the desk.

The structural backbone is formed by a single folded sheet of laser cut steel, providing high mechanical strength while keeping the profile clean. All secondary components use precision injection molded plastic enclosures to cleanly package the internal printed circuit boards and electrical contacts.

The design centers on three key functional elements. An integrated routing strap gathers loose wires to keep desktop cable clutter fully organized. Four power outlets, arranged as two per side, provide balanced access without plugs colliding. Finally, the entire lower enclosure detaches effortlessly using internal magnets against the steel chassis, opening up complete access to manage incoming cords cleanly.
